Hey List,

There was a bit of a debate a few weeks ago about
the guard between Kel, JD and I pipped in a bit too. I can relate to people when
they complain about promotions and being passed over and stuff from my previous
incarnation in the guard way back. I have a new recruit and am enjoying her, not
much interested in promotions yet. I wrote down some ideas, mostly because I've
long wanted to see some more guard play. I'm partly idealistic. Don't all jump
on me at once. ;)
I sent these ideas to Dan and JD and Dan has asked me to
forward here. I know JD isn't keen on the idea of demoting people after long
periods of inactivity. Though I suggested this as a fair way of controlling the
balance between officers and just plain guards and I'm not talking
weeks of inactivity but around six months. Dan hasn't commented
yet.
Jaxy

I think that all complaints to the guard should be listed monthly

together with a request for a volunteer to follow it up and talk to
the victims/witnesses, whether the criminal/powergamer is approached or not.

This would make the guard seem to be doing its job to the muns of
victims of crime both ooc and ic. More crimes by individuals ic should put up
the bounty on them, if it doesn't already.

Both of these
suggestions are asking for people to volunteer to play their guards not ordering
them but perhaps it will prompt people to actually follow through and will feel
more involved/organised. This could enhance guard play all round if it works and
might even raise the guard's image. I am happy to help with the admin of making
these lists and posting, provided I get the names of any new recruits. If we
list the crimes and suggest people might like to talk to the victims, it could
enhance rp, even if you are asking for volunteers from the ranks to do it. It
would help people have more to play with their guards and also have more new
people to
play/interact with.

3. Promotion.
This seems to have been a bit of a bugbear with the guard. I can remember being
irritated when Shyne was passed over even though played all the time, for others
who joined the guard after her. It never made sense. I can understand the
reasoning that the guard would be top heavy with officers but then lots of minor
ranks could be established as well as the current ones. For instance do we have
any detective ranks? What about having a dectective, detective first class,
detective inspector. etc, I'm sure we could come up with other additions too,

Also I believe that guards not played for a while are transferred
to admin. I would propose that a ranked guard in admin for more than three
months should lose their rank. If this is clearly stated to all I think it would
seem less unfair than having officers who are never played stopping those who do
play from rising in ranks. It might help maintain the balance of officers and
non officers.

4. BDI Events. It might be interesting to appoint
guards to patrol various BDI events. We have the Masque ball coming up and the
Jester's Folly. Why not ask for mun volunteers for guards to work these events
for a short time?
That could lead to some very amusing rp and
doesn;t have to stop anyone also playing another char at some point as a guest
at the event. Maybe it could set a precedent for future events.

5. I'd like to see magistrates listed on the guard roster
together with who the mun is and an email address for them. That way if you ever
find a criminal who will actually come in, you know who to go
to.
