<div><EM>For the very few who happen to remember me, and the fact that I exist, or any of my characters, I thought I'd best offer up an explanation for my extended leave of absence. My household hit a financial rock, a disaster that was the equivalent of the Titanic's iceberg, which mean sacrificing a lot of non necessities, including my much beloved laptop, because I simply couldn't afford the payments on it. Odd work hours make it difficult to get to a library, and I've been on the outs with all of my so called friends that have internet in their homes, so I haven't been able to even send through the mailing list like I would have liked to. But, now I can get online at work, once a week at least, so I thought I'd make use of the time. Which means, that anyone wishing to take part in roleplay, will have to do so through email, or the mailing list, and be patience with my slow replies. </EM></div> <div><EM></EM> </div> <div>In the days following the arrival of a
certain young merchantess, an oriental woman named Li Qai who was, most annoyingly spoiled and cruel, a number of strange things had been seen around the city of Drache, brightly colored mice with wings, a young girl with vivid green leaves for hair, a three and a half foot long lizard that rather closely resembled a miniature fiarytale dragon, though the creature often shifted in colors while one was watching it. But none of these were quite so odd as the creature the young merchantess claimed was her bodyguard. </div> <div> </div> <div>Nightshade, who had, undoubtedly once had a much nicer name than that, had the appearance of a very attractive oriental woman from the waist up, but from the navel down she possesed the body of a large serpent, onyx scaled with an overly of pale blue diamonds. Bringing herself completely upright she would have stood somewhere around ten feet tall, if she used the thick snake's torso for added heigth. Her raven hair, long enough to
fall past the beginning of the scales was worn in a multitude of thin, tiny braids, usually spotted with brightly colored glass beads. She went armed only with a short sword and wore only a wide bands of black over her chest, claiming that too much clothing only got in the way of quick movements. There was usually a wide sweep of kohl around almond colored eyes, dusted with pale blue powder. Amazingly enough, while most adults tended to give her wide birth, children flocked to her in droves, and, for a hardened warrior, she was quite content to coil in the streets and play at dolls with little girls, or monster slayer with little boys.</div> <div> </div> <div>The children on the docks were particularly fond of the serpent woman, and it was there that she could be found most often, a little boy perched on her shoulders, a girl or two riding cheerfully along on the serpent body. On that particularly bright day, Nightshade was coiled on one of the docks, showing a
little girl how to string shells together to make jewelry, "Grown ups are stupid," the child was saying for the forth time in an hour. The snake lady had been late to meet her, again, after being accosted by people screaming 'demon'. </div> <div> </div> <div>"Not necessarily stupid, just...stubborn. They only know what they've been taught, and some of them have been taught very little. There you are," she tied off the knot and draped a necklace of shells around the girl's neck, "Very pretty."</div> <div> </div> <div>"Still stupid, you aren't a demon, and they should know better."</div> <div> </div> <div>Nightshade shook her head, "I'm surprised they don't think worse, given the menagerie that Mistress Qai brought with her. I'm going to have to speak to her about keeping those creatures better caged. I'm fairly certain that half of them are illegal, and if the Guard ever had suspicion enough to search our home, we would all be in very deep water. But
you have chores I'm sure, so go on and go get to them. I'll still be here when you're done."</div><p>
