From reverend83 at hotmail.com Thu Jul 5 16:32:50 2007 From: reverend83 at hotmail.com (Jason scherer) Date: Thu, 05 Jul 2007 21:32:50 +0000 Subject: [Royal Guard] Demon summoner In-Reply-To: Message-ID: MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD 5th day of mid summer. Onto Captain Von Stahl and to all the guard as a notice and warning. On the 4th night of Mid Summer I had been tipped off to a demon summoner. A young lady by the name of Azalia who is staying at the Church under the protection of Father Kylus and at the behest of Lakyle Stygian tipped me off to a cult leader in the city who is trying to abduct her. Taking action I assembled a portion of my platoon and moved to engage and apprehend this would be demon summoner before they could unleash all the Nine Hells on the city. The girl is to be some form of sacrifice to bring back a forgotten or dead evil deity, or perhaps to ascend a powerful demon to deific status or simply bring it here on the prime material. I know not which the end goal is but it must be thwarted, I had been given the description for the summoner in question, named Kaedin (Description plus detailed sketch follows) I ordered him to stand down and brought members of my platoon to assist, knowing full well the potential of his power. He did not disappoint and summoned a 'distraction' of sorts in the form of a powerful Hellhound, it was quickly dispatched but was only a means to keep us busy from summoning a powerful Incunabula, a blade demon as it were. The battle that ensued resulted in minor property damage and unfortunately two guards were slain as I attempted to get them out. Thankfully upon storming the building my fellow guardsmen were able to usher out all the civillians, all except one who turned out to be a dangerous ally of Kaedin by the name of Piet (description and sketch included) Both are powerful mages, the obvious source of Piet's power is her book which she used to summon some form of tentacle monster to occupy my men. The pressure is on them hard and I write this report to inform higher of the goings on and to hopefully requisition more resources in the dealing of this powerful demon summoner. This sort of behavior must not be tolerated in our city, and guard blood has been shed and I humbly request the honor to take further action in tracking and stopping this Kaedin and Piet. Furthermore the girl Azalia must remain at the church where she can be protected and more guards, possibly with arcane or divine ability should keep a watchful eye on her and the church itself as that holy location was the sight of a battle with some type of corrupted angel. After defeating it in its unholy transformed body it rose as just a holy being, used guilt and foul words to trick the girl into going outside and then it departed (Description of said angel to follow) This is no angelic being, if it is seen it should be treated as a demon as no creature native to the planes of both law and good would act or use words in such a way. No goodly being or deity asks a mortal sacrifice be made for its own sake. _________________________________________________________________ Need a brain boost? Recharge with a stimulating game. You are already intimately acquainted with the details of the situation, and possess divinely granted gifts that will be an asset in defeating this demonic menace. Find these individuals and bring them to justice; root their cult out and wipe every last trace of it from our shores. Find out what you can about this cult and their goals from this girl Azalia, and by all means keep her under constant protection until the leaders of the cult have been dealt with. In lieu of the gravity of this matter, I am hereby appointing you to the rank of Lieutenant to give you better access to the men and resources you will need to adequately respond to this threat to our city. You are free to seek volunteers for your force to deal with the threat. If you have need of extraordinary requisitions, please submit them to myself or one of the Arms-Commanders as soon as possible so that our response to this cult may be swift and decisive. I do hope that my trust in you is not misplaced, and that any further instances of conflict between the laws of the city and your personal religious convictions will not occur in as dramatic a fashion as the last one. He made responses to questions asked by Sergeant Ryal Stygian that led to the assumption that the man was obviously of a rogue nature. I left, while Sergeant Stygian was still present. A short time later, coming back past the Black Dragon Inn on patrol, I heard Dulcina yelling for the Guards (a difficult thing to mistake that particular yell), and went to investigate. I found Dulcina, saying that someone had broken into one of the rooms upstairs, and she then showed me several items, a lock pit kit, a merchant's purse, and several of the same daggers I had seen the man displaying earlier. When I confronted the man, he complied readily, and even confessed to having broken into the room. he was taken promptly to the nearest guardhouse, where Armswoman Kypree completed his processing paperwork, and he confessed to having broken into rooms in another inn, the Shadowmist, as well. I have taken the liberty of enclosing a description of the admitted rogue, who travels under the name, Alla Xul. Though how much truth there is to that, I do not know. He has shown a continued evasiveness in answering even the simplest of questions. (Signed and Sealed) Arms-Corporal Isis Solquin Desvani se Sylverleaf --------------------------------- Luggage? GPS? Early afternoon a demonic creature that appeared to be only a very young child came sauntering into the inn, the honorable magistrate Nero put a swift end to its tormented existance by the heel of his boot. Rather than simply expire peacefully the demon suddenly exploded violently in a fireball, that caused minimal property damage but extreme personal injury to many persons. I arrived shortly after the explosion having come off patrol and duty at the Royal Church to see smoke billowing from the windows, I knew right away that there was at the very least a fire inside, and people running and screaming made me think of a possible attack. After extinguishing the fire on the furniture and putting the flames out on some people we begain moving people outside to be tended to and healed. Unfortunately there were deaths and the fire brigade arrived too late to put any flames out, not that putting the flames out would be necessary to a structure impervious to fire. I cannot blame anyone for this incident, and those present performed admirably and very heroically. I would pass but a warning to all present that if there is a demon, devil, or otherwise evil creature, if you or anyone should want to dispose of it (Which -ALL- should) it should be coaxed away from the Inn or any civillians, not everyone is as hardy as the abnormal individuals who bring themselves to the inn, and often times demons, especially Balors, explode upon suffering fatal damage. Shortly before the Second Night Bell, a gnoll by the name of Guthak Wraithbone entered the guardhouse, speaking of a young woman in the BlkDragon Inn who was acting irrationally and being hassled by well-meaning patrons. I went to the scene and greeted the woman, a human by the name of Mekarie. (A description of Merkarie follows.) Tespin Mekarie was indeed irrational and agitated, and wished to leave. I allowed her to do so, but followed at an unthreatening distance. She spoke of being followed by someone with strange powers, which led me to perform a ritual in secret to examine her for magical and psionic influences. She seemed to be a very receptive psychic, which I suspected was the cause of her irrationality. I convinced her to allow me to perform a ritual on her, and then did so, shielding her from detection and from psychic emanations while also placing an effect on her to make her easy for me to scry on. Once shielded from mental influences, she became much more lucid, and I was able to convince her to stay in protective custody at the guardhouse for a time, on the condition that she be free to leave. She seems to be pursued by an individual she calls the Harper, who seems to be a vampire, necromancer, or demon of some sort. She attributes various powers to him, and seems to consider him a threat to her and those around her. She is very concerned about him finding her, and seems to believe that being in constant travel will prevent this. Despite her instability, I believe that she is more or less accurate in her description of the Harper and his abilities. I have placed her in psionically warded Cell 17, and have given her my word as a guardswoman that she is free to leave at any time. A passerby alerted us to an injured man outside the BlkDragon Inn, and I went to investigate. A woman was assisting a man of indeterminate age who appeared to have been struck by a cart. ((Description of Selestia follows.)) As I arrived, he stopped breathing, and I prepared to put him in stasis in an attempt to keep him alive until a healer could be summoned. Just before I completed the effect, a group of small, colorful birds burst from the man's neck. My stasis effect managed to catch most of them, but several escaped, and were hunted down by the women who had been assisting the man. On closer inspection, the man was horribly disfigured. His face and lower jaw had been moved to the top of his head without disturbing the skull underneath. His upper jaw was visible bulging through the skin of his neck. Upon examining him magically, I discovered that his brain had been replaced with a few old cogs and a bit of string. He appeared to have been subject to a compulsion to walk as far as he could in Drache. The spells appeared to have been sculpted by a talented amateur; they had been constructed using various disciplines in an inefficient and random way. They appeared to be motivated by unstable curiosity, based on the resonance that I could divulge. I killed most of the birds, leaving one alive and storing it in an unused stasis cell (number 12). I dissected one, discovering a hollow head and no digestive system. It had been filled with random things. Bits of bark, wisps of fabric, a glass bead or two, insect wings, a little seashell. Upon dissecting another, I found a similar but different assortment of random items. The spells on the bird appeared to have commanded it to fly as high as it could, then glide to earth, repeating the process until its death. The man's pockets were filled with a similar random assortment of objects: little discs of wood the size of small change, smooth and almost polished from sanding. Lengths of colored string, some knotted to each other. A piece of wire. A tiny ball of copper covered in pale green verdigras. A dead mouse. And fistfuls of leaves stripped off of weeds, all long wilted and compacted into one green, papery mass. After magical examination, I discovered that the man's body was much like the birds'. His head was hollow. There were still a few birds caught in it, presumably because the stasis field went up so quickly. A hole had been made in the roof of his mouth, which was how the birds got out and through his neck. He also lacked a digestive system. His torso was stuffed with random things as well - scraps of paper, rocks, horse's teeth, dead butterflies, a ball woven of wicker, little orbs of various metals, bent nails, scraps of wood, rags and straw. The bodies of the birds and the man are in one of the preservative evidence lockers, awaiting further investigation. If a person is found in a similar situation, but still alive, I recommend immediate stasis and interrogation, although it would not have been possible to save the man's life without immediate and extensive magical assistance. In particular, the mud that is often tracked in from the rather dirty roads and backalleys of Drache. Though an extensive effort on my part, I have managed to quiet their complaints, though I doubt I will be able to do so again. What, then, would we do if we were reliant only upon the raw recruits to scrub the floors and keep this wonderful symbol of peace, order, and justice clean? Think of the symbolic meaning of having dirty floors in the very offices of the guard! I think we can all imagine the sort of jokes that would come as a result of *that*. As such, I feel that I must ask all guards to wipe their feet on the provided entry mats before stepping into the building, and to make every effort to have their prisoners do the same. I feel certain that with this little bit of effort, we can all help to contribute to the overall cleanliness of our work environment, and encourage greater productivity as a result. Upon arriving at the establishment there was a scuffle in the making, rather than let it rest on the shoulders of Arms Recruit Relthzaal I joined him. There was suspicion of one individual who was rather obviously not with the living. I asked if he would say anything before I administered a test, to prove his innocence. Rather than say much of anything he proved his guilt by sprouting claws from his hands and proceeding to attack us, moving with inhuman speed. Seven upstanding citizens joined the fight and the vampire was quickly turned to ash and destroyed. Furthermore let it be known that Ravynetti Tivuard is not necessarily attack on sight, which I told Arms Recruit Relthzaal, though I perfectly understand his personal objection, I informed him simply that if he so wished to attack Ravynetti he was more than welcome to, as the law states, undead are given no rights. _________________________________________________________________ http://imagine-windowslive.com/hotmail/?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_mini_pcmag_0507 From keloki at gmail.com Thu Jul 19 21:06:23 2007 From: keloki at gmail.com (Kel Russell) Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 22:06:23 -0400 Subject: [Royal Guard] Report of the MIGHTY BATTLE Message-ID: <722da6ac0707191906m5165e5acid49752c8cb4ac18c@mail.gmail.com> "Pallodain's Platinum balls, I hate writing reports," Ryal said as he finally settled down at the desk of Magistrate Lachlan Brewer. He needed a quiet place to think about how just to word this disorienting report of the mighty battle. Wasn't that what Kaida had called it? Smirking to himself, he shook his head and put pen to paper. "On this eve of 18 Melxbralkat, 477, I was at the River Darian on one of many visits there. It's a good place to think, what can I say? I was on a break from my patrol and thought to cool down by the water. It was then that the creature appeared. It was clearly some sort of demon of immense height and heat. It felt as if I'd been thrust into the Ironworks themselves with naught but my pride. It tolled my name in a sort of bell-like way, hissing Stygian again and again. I fled the creature with due haste, paying no mind to what was going on behind me. In hindsight, I certainly wish I had. After entering the city, the first thought of aid came to my mind in the form of my uncle Ravynetti Tivaurd. I'd heard he was in the BlkDragon the night prior so I headed there. By that time I was exhausted. Too many near catches from the beast for my comfort. Cut up, banged up, beat up I raced into the inn and without humility I screamed my uncle's name as loudly as I could. Hurrying this along I finally got my uncle down the stairs only to have the beast follow me into the inn. It was only then that I noticed it decayed everything in its path. It was after me and I'd just led it to one of the most populated spots in the entire city! Idiot! I left the inn pursued by not only the demon, but Arms Recruit Roman Kotalik, Tespin Kaida, Vorfon Raimo and Ravynetti Tivaurd. A long battle ensued. Thanks to Recruit Kotalik, we quickly found out that physical attacks do nothing. Arcane magic also does much of nothing. Magic missiles, ice .. nothing really seemed to work until Ravynetti did something. I don't really know what he did but it hurt it. I'm no wizard by a long shot! Moving on, I was given the task of distracting the demon while Ravynetti began a complex spell. He asked for willing donors of a few drops of blood. If anyone questions that, then they can answer to me. Arms Recruit Kotalik, Raimo and Kaida offered their own blood for my sake and I owe them my life for it. That was when Ravynetti plunged a knife into his own chest and died. In a sense. He decayed into a pile of nothing. Before that he charged me with some personal family business which will be disclosed at a later date. Sorry. That's the gist of the report. The demon was banished or imprisoned somewhere where only Ravynetti knows. There could be more of them. A teacher of mine suggested there would be, since demons almost never travel alone. I believe him. Since the demon said my surname, I can only guess that it was sent after those with that distinction. I can only guess what Lakyle has done to piss off the cultists this time. Keep all eyes out for one Arius Kaedin and Nezali Greer. Kaedin is the ring-leader of this whole circus disaster and I bet my badge he has everything to do with this latest development. Long-winded and tired, Arms-Sergeant Ryal Stygian" Ryal sighed and set the Everlasting Inkpen down, fingering it with a contemplative expression. Resque had given the pen to his mother a long time ago in exchange for a book that had changed so many lives. Compensation that he thought Quill got the better end of. Flipping it up, he caught it and tucked it behind a pointed ear, stuffing the report in its proper place (though not where Ryal would have liked to stick it) and left the office. -- -Kel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It is unfortunate that our situation has grown as sour as it is, while we have until the winter solstice to act, I have come into information through discussion the location of the cult, and now with Lakyle Stygian, Azalia missing, and this Kaedin seeming to have vanished, it is safe to come to the conclusion that they have been taken and are no longer in the city. On top of that the demon attacks on Ryal, Quill, and Caius Stygian themselves have lead me to the conclusion that action must be taken. I have an idea of where to start looking, however Sergeant Alim Kassad, who I have appraised of the situation and location, is a better tracker and demonology is his forte, with that I have deligated charge of a potential mission north to him, he will track down, and we as a group will purge this cult with extreme prejaduce, with your permission of course, this is also a formal request to apply what resources are available toward retreiving Laklye Stygian and this Azalia, as well to crush this cult at their own stronghold, cut the head off the snake so to speak. A few days ago, in an attempt to put me out action and even end my life the cult summoned and sent a Balor to deal with me at the farmhouse where Lakyle first engaged Kaedin. I was investigating the area for traces and clues when the large demon made itself known, the ensuing battle reduced the farmhouse and all of its accompanying buildings to little more than rubble and it almost did succeed in ending my life. I am here however and am writing this report with its skull on my desk. Over the last few weeks, I have encountered several people who were either unable or unwilling to speak in the language of the land, and have heard other guards complaining about the same. It would seem to make sense to figure out some means--magical or otherwise--of training the guards as a whole in various foreign languages. Not only would this make a better impression on our foreign visitors, but it would also make it easier for them to listen in on foreign criminals plotting something within the city. Since Drache is a city built on trade with our foreign neighbors and those even further away, this suggestion seems very reasonable and worthwhile. I'm not sure of exactly how this could be accomplished, but maybe some of the magic users in the guard have suggestions on the matter? --Armswoman Kypree, Adjutant ____________________________________________________________________________________ Take the Internet to Go: Yahoo!Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. http://mobile.yahoo.com/go?refer=1GNXIC -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... At around the First Night Bell, a young elven woman, Amara Broodwind, came to the door of the Guardhouse where I was on desk duty. She spoke no Common, and bore a note from a researcher at the University, one Liina Nyralae, explaining her situation and suggestion magical assistance. I took the girl to an unused office upstairs, number 7, and set up a spell circle to make all language comprehensible to those standing within it. The circle, drawn in chalk and fused emerald, persists there, and should have a lifetime measured in years, barring major leyline disruption in the Drache area. If it is a problem to have it located in its current position, it can be removed by a strong lye solution and I can reconstruct it elsewhere. The primary effect of the circle, making all language comprehensible to those within it, is persistent; in other words, one need only step into the circle to use it. The effect is perfectly safe, but I do not recommend staying inside it over an hour, as it may be taxing to the mental faculties. The circle also has a secondary function: it is able to bestow its effect upon an individual for a limited period of time. Upon speaking the word "anethratua" in the vicinity of the circle, all those within the spell's perimeter will gain the ability to comprehend all language, even when outside the circle. This effect will last from twelve to thirty-six hours, depending on the atmospheric pressure and thaumic conditions. Be aware that this effect is much more taxing than the persistent one. I highly recommend that the invoker (the one who speaks the activation word) be able to sit down for approximately an hour afterward, as the effect drains quite a bit of energy. Regardless, the drain should be temporary, and will not cause any lasting impairment. Be also advised that the more people inside the circle when the secondary effect is activated, the more energy is needed. I would not advise activating the secondary effect with three or more people inside the circle; it could lead to unconsciousness on the part of the invoker. Anyone with questions about the functioning of this spell may contact me in person or leave a note on the posting board in the coffee room. -Spellcaster Peony Heatherdown of the Upper Darian ((-Hatshepsut))
