From karras at iinet.net.au Sun Jan 3 05:45:24 2010 From: karras at iinet.net.au (Karras / Stu) Date: Sun, 3 Jan 2010 19:45:24 +0800 Subject: [Royal Guard] UNTO VORFON LUCIUS VON STAHL, CAPTAIN OF THE ROYAL GUARD Message-ID: <000e01ca8c6a$3cca18a0$b65e49e0$@net.au> (A very neatly written letter on rag paper, folded and sealed with wax as en envelope, is delivered to an Arms-Sergeant within the Royal Guardhouse.) To Vorfon Appetire Lucius Von Stahl, Captain of the Royal Southern Arangothian Guard. Na vorfonim, I humbly write this letter to you as a public servant to the crown and to the City of Drache, a scribe and mathematician serving for our Royal Chancellery. I happened to arrive to a rather disturbing sight whilst I was travelling back from my eve's work. Two guardsmen, one severely wounded, was being assisted by another back to the guardhouse. One of them identified himself as Arms-Corporal Merrax Ratholta. The other I was informed was an Arms-Lieutenant by the name of Serrolt. Please forgive any misspellings, I was only informed of the good Lieutenant's name once. The Lieutenant was wounded with a crossbow bolt to the chest, and your fellow Arms-Corporal was wounded with severe lacerations to his arms and cuts to his face. After following these guardsmen along the city street and assisting them in whichever way I could (bearing in mind I am a short man and quite feeble of stature, I could not assist them physically, but I was glad to offer them moral support), I followed them into the guardhouse. The good Lieutenant seemed in a bad way, and was not capable of dictating a report to me whatsoever. The Arms-Corporal, however, after finding my profession, asked if I would be able to notate his report, since he was suffering from stress and was severely cut from his fight with what he described as, and I quote, "some stupid bloody undead mongrel gnolls." I felt humbled and honored that a member of the esteemed Royal Guard of Drache would endow such a task upon myself, which I took to with heart and dedication. His report is as follows. Please also be advised that upon completion of this missive, the healers are happy to report both guards are expected to make a full recovery. Also, Arms-Corporal Ratholta has requested a copy of this missive be sent to the Wharf Garrison Commander. Should you have any enquiries, a missive can be sent to my secretary at the Chancellery office. I remain a humble servant to His Grace. Me Enxenim, Sarpolta ul-Branth Oryan. The report, as dictated by the Arms-Corporal: "I had arrived late after discussing recent illegal gnoll activities with the Arms-Sergeant of the local Wharf Garrison. After which I decided to head into the Black Dragon Inn for a quick coffee. Lieutenant Eedel Serolt (sic) was there, along with myself. We'd only just begun to talk to one another when some stupid gnoll comes in and falls arse-over-tail on one of Dulcina's tables. I thought it was just some stupid drunk still celebrating from the recent festivities, however the L-T was quick to point out that it was indeed a gnoll. The Lieutenant approached the gnoll and asked him to remove the cowl on his head. After not responding, I took the initiative at removed the cowl from the gnoll's head. He seemed ready to soil himself, given the fact that he was scared out of his wits. The L-T didn't take any chances though, and she asked him to put his hands behind his back, then requested I shackled him. After reassuring him we were just taking precautions, the Leituenant gave him a good talking to, then seeing he wasn't involved with the recent happenings at the Temple and on the city streets, had him released and his shackles removed." "I was ready to pack it in at this point and head home so I could get some bloody sleep. What do you know it, some farmer I think I've seen out of Trans' somewhere (Transdarinia, perhaps?) runs on in and starts screaming his bloody head off. Next thing you know, those undead, stink-festering puss-piles of gnoll turd we've been looking for decide to rock up at Dulcy's joint. One of them snaps off a crossbow bolt. Hits this poor sap of a farmer right in the neck. Kills him dead. The other one who oh-so-conveniently has a crossbow too, snaps that one off. That one hits L-T square in the bloody chest. So I nock up a swallowtail, and loose it off at one of the bastards. Think my bowstring must've got wet from the cold, as it missed his chest by a long mile and landed in his hip. So then this bloody gnoll charges me and knocks me over. Some skirt with a halberd. well.. I think it was a halberd. I can't remember. Well, some skirt with this weapon starts fighting this other gnoll that's still up and growling, while this other one's busy trying to make a chow-meal out of my face. I have to give credit to this other citizen, Jelani. The gnoll we questioned. He stepped in and helped out, stuck the gnoll on top of me with a crossbow bolt. There was some mage there and that undead bloke that makes my skin crawl.. Tiverd or whatever his name is. He was helping too, although I don't know how exactly. It's hard to see anything when a 300 pound gnoll is trying to play potter with your nose." "So, yeah. Anyway. I managed to dispatch the gnoll with one of my arrows, and help from this other bloke, Jelani, and everyone else. The other was dispatched by the quick thinking of some of the patrons who were there. Either that or it was the arrow that I skewered his brain with using one of my broadheads. Anyway, Serolt(sic) fell early on. I saw her charging the gnoll that pounced me, but I think she must've succumb to her wound. That bolt hit her pretty hard. But the healers say she's going to make it. "Is that all? My head's hurting and I'd like to bloody pass out now, if that's okay." -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... As I approached, a female Halfling (a detailed description of Shimmering`Star) dressed all in black tumbled over the downed Armsman and proceeded to flee the scene despite the clear command of Magistrate Caladon to halt. She appeared to be moving at an exceptional speed, I suspect some form of magical enhancement. Her path brought her within arm's reach of myself only because of the direction in which I was approaching the inn. Naturally I made an attempt to apprehend her, but she word a slick cloak that made it difficult to grasp her. I gave chase, intending to bring her in for questioning regarding her involvement in Armsman Servilius' condition. If not for the fact that I am considerably taller, and she didn't have a lead, I suspect that I wouldn't have succeeded in keeping pace with her, as it was I was hard pressed and nearly lost her. If not for the fact that she stopped at a wall, allowing me time to get a grip on her hair, then tackle her to the ground, she woule evaded me completely. It should be noted that while this was going on, Lt. Idelle Sarault was tending to Armsman Servilius. When I attempted to shackle the halfling female's wrists, she evaded me again, but didn't put enough distance between us to put herself out of my reach. My response to her evasion was to attention to stun her with a back arm, which only glanced off her head, as if turned away by something stronger than merely a leather hood. But she stumbled, falling not far from Magistrate Caladon, where she appeared to surrender. Until I moved to shackle her, at which point she smashed a potion vial and vanished before our eyes. I cannot be certain, but I have reason to believe that she attempted to ensorcell me to orchestrate her release, a suggestion spell perhaps. In light of her disappearance, Magistrate Caladon passed sentence: The Halfling female was pronounced guilty of theft, resisting arrest, and assault on an agent of the crown. When apprehended she is to be detained to the Guardhouse, sentance to be completed there. Her right hand is to be removed, and she is to be placed under geas against having her hand regrown, and another against theft. The result of the geas should she act against it, is to be her brain melting. I would advise my brothers and sisters at arms to excercise caution. This halfing is either a middling wizard of some sort, or has contact with one to supply her with magically charged items. She is exceptionally crafty. It would appear, she was attempting to seek Armsman Caladon's badge, for reasons unknown. Arms-Recruit Kelaria Stormwave -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The attempt to steal Armsman Servilius' credentials can have few purposes beyond use in what are deemed as false-flag operations.? Whether those are to be used domestically or on foreign soil has yet to be demonstrated, but already a suspect carrying authentic, and presumably stolen, credentials for an Inspector of the Border Watch managed to convince members of the Royal Guard to help arrest and essentially kidnap a citizen of Arangoth, where they were eventually beaten and branded. If anyone comes across someone presenting you with the credentials of an Armsman that you do not recognize, engage them and request the assistance of a Sergeant or Lieutenant, who should have enough knowledge of our current roster to know who this individual is, or is not.? Anyone that isn't recognized by the latter in the least will be requested to accompany them to the local Guardhouse for proper identification.? If you are amongst these, cooperate entirely with the process. Tonight, I led a team of authorized civilians to deal with the gnoll raider situation. This team consisted of: - Hunter ((OOC: alias of Michael Darakai)) - Karys Renaven - Ueaj Alast - Rowen I cast a ritual using blood that had been left behind in the Inn by two of the gnolls and was able to track them to the forest outside the city. We were ambushed by a group of gnolls, including one who appeared to be a shaman with control over elemental and necromantic magic. At this point, we were joined by two other civilians who assisted in the battle: - Guthak, a Zul Kiran gnoll - Jasmine We were able to dispatch most of the gnolls in that combat, but the shaman shifted forms to an ethereal beast and fled. We followed and found a small encampment where the women of the tribe were caring for several children. The shaman died, but managed to direct a champion to attack us. The gnoll women were aggressive, and were killed in combat. Guthak defeated the champion in a duel. During the duel, a disguised figure appeared; he seemed to be looting the campsite. ((Description of a tall, thin man entirely wrapped in silk wielding a very magical katar.)) Once the gnolls were defeated, we teleported back to the guardhouse with the gnoll children. Based on a ritual I performed during the tracking, I believe that all of the gnolls in the area have been accounted for, but I recommend caution, as there may be a few who were on a raiding party during our attack. I have requested a group to revisit the site, properly take care of the dead bodies, and collect evidence. I ask that the gnoll children be made wards of the Crown and be placed in a home or facility equipped to deal with them and teach them right from wrong. They are unruly, but I believe them to be capable of reform and proper behavior, given care and education. The total count of gnolls, all told, was 17: seven males (including the shaman and champion), five females, and five pups. I recommend that a reward be given to all civilians who participated and request it for risking their lives in the service of the Crown. I am able to give further details on the operation as circumstances warrant. It was initially reported that a residence that belonged to a now-exiled boy known as Hyena, had caught fire and burned almost to the ground.? The identified owner has since been identified as an individual by the name of Isaacs.? Witnesses reported seeing green flames emitting from the building.? In amassing evidence from Ms. Ziehr's room prior to her dispatch of an incendiary device that torched everything else, I managed to recover what was later identified by University staff as copper chloride.? Copper chloride, when burned, causes a gaseous flame to appear green. Due to the findings of these alchemical powders associated with incendiary devices and her employ of them to conceal evidence, Ms. Ziehr will have the charges of arson of that residence tacked onto the long grocery list of felonies she already faces.? Motive is not being sought. This bring the final list of charges to: 1 count of attempted murder on a Crown Official 1 count of impersonating a Crown Official 2 counts of arson 2 counts of obstruction of justice 1 count of attempted murder against a citizen 2 counts of conspiracy to commit murder 2 counts of damage to property Signed, ~Idelle Sarault, Arms-Lieutenant -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... She was promptly escorted to the healers wing of the Guardhouse to receive treatment. Vaenalion as well as the Lieutenant declined to say what the cause of the burns was.? According to the individual that brought her in, she had already been treated to some extent prior to her arrival and was at one time in critical condition.? While the healers reported that they were able to reconstruct much of her skin tissue, she will have some residual nerve damage as well as a pre-existing hairline fracture in her sternum which was evidently exacerbated by whatever events occurred to cause the burns.? I was told that the fracture could not be healed out of fears that the bone would close upon vital tissue and cause further complications. Upon collecting information for this report, I spoke with both the Lieutenant and the healers tending to her.? It was the professional opinion of the healers that Lieutenant Sarault be placed on disability leave for a period of two weeks, with which she concurred.?
